When I am not otherwise occupied with life, I like to go out to my studio in the woods.
Once there, I embrace the peace and quiet and immerse myself in my found object sculpture, which has decidedly become my passion. Recently, with my newly emptied 'nest', I have gotten much better at making this a priority in my life. It brings me so much joy and fulfillment.
I am attracted to rusted iron- it calls to me from the woods and the coastlines of Maine and Nova Scotia, where I spend most of my time, but I am lured by it wherever I happen to be. These rusty iron shapes sit patiently in my studio keeping me company until I discover their place in my art. Often, if I've had a found object for a while, and it is not speaking to me, I will turn it upside down, and suddenly, magically, it makes sense. I like to combine different elements (wood, glass, metal, stone) and strive to balance them in many of my pieces. While I'm working on one, I get an idea for the next one... they keep changing... I just go with the flow, my heart beating and grinning all the way. It's a good journey. I am incredibly passionate about it.
Originally born in Chicago, I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and have a BFA from The Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD). I took Costume Design and History at The California College of the Arts (CCAC) and Graphic Design at Moore College of Art, in Philadelphia.
I've lived in Freeport now for 16 years with my wonderful, constantly supportive husband and my two fantastic kids, who have flown the coop and are both young adults now with their own families!
I am grateful every day for my family, my art and soulful time spent in my studio.
